ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
Aquileia is one of the easiest archaeological sites in Italy to camp at: a municipal camper stop sits right by the excavation sites on Via Achille Grandi — about ten pitches, no electricity but water and waste service, €10 a night, open all year — and the big lagoon campsites of Grado (Tenuta Primero, Marina Julia, Belvedere) are 10–15 minutes away with full facilities, pools and direct cycle-path links to the ruins.
WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE
What you’ll experience
You park in the village camper stop in the evening, walk past the Roman walls to an aperitivo on the basilica square, and wake to the bell tower over a silent site with the ruins to yourself before the first coaches. For a longer stay, the Grado lagoon campsites give you beach, pool and bikes — and the flat ride to Aquileia becomes your daily excursion.

HIGHLIGHTS
Moments worth savouring
The municipal camper stop inside the archaeological zone — €10, all year, walk to everything.
The Grado lagoon campsites (Tenuta Primero, Marina Julia, Belvedere) as full-service bases.
Cycling the Alpe-Adria route between camp and ruins without ever touching traffic.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Good to know before you go
The Aquileia stop is simple — ten pitches, no electricity, hot water limited; arrive early in summer (coaches fill the adjacent parking). The Grado sites book out in July–August; in spring and autumn you can roll in.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why it matters
Aquileia is a hub of the Adriatic cycle network and one of the very few world-heritage sites you can park next to overnight for the price of a coffee.
