ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
The classic photograph of Blagaj is the tekija set against the sheer limestone cliff above the Buna, taken from the opposite bank of the river. From this angle the monastery, the cliff and the green water compose into the image that made Blagaj one of the most photographed sights in Herzegovina, with the spring and the rock in a single frame. The view is best in the morning light, when the cliff is lit and the tekija reads clearly against it, and the viewpoint is reached from the path along the Buna. Bring a lens with some reach if you want the detail of the building against the rock.

HIGHLIGHTS
Moments worth savouring
The tekija against the cliff — the monastery set beneath the sheer limestone wall.
The Buna — the green river in the foreground of the composition.
The spring — the water emerging at the base of the cliff, part of the frame.
The morning light — the time when the cliff is lit and the tekija reads clearly.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Good to know before you go
A short walk to the opposite bank of the Buna for the classic composition. The light is best in the morning, when the cliff is lit; in the late afternoon the cliff and the tekija fall into shade earlier than the river. The viewpoint is open at all hours and reached from the path along the Buna.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why it matters
The cross-river view is the image of Blagaj that most visitors take home — the tekija, the cliff and the Buna in a single frame. For a visitor it is the complement to the visit inside the tekija and the climb to the fortress above.
