ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
The Buna spring is the natural spectacle of Blagaj, and a focused look at it is the way to take in the scale of what happens here. The Buna does not build up gradually: it emerges in full flow from a cavern at the base of the sheer limestone cliff, a major karst resurgence that turns at once into a substantial river. The sight is best from the riverbank beside the tekija, where the cliff rises above the water and the volume of the spring is clearest, and from the path along the Buna below. The flow is fullest in spring, after snowmelt and rain, and striking at any time of year.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Good to know before you go
A short, gentle walk along the riverbank to the spring, viewed from beside the tekija and from the path along the Buna. The banks can be damp and uneven, so wear shoes with grip. The spring is the natural companion to the tekija visit, and the two are seen together on the same walk.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why it matters
The spring is the reason Blagaj exists — the natural fact that drew settlement and worship to the foot of the cliff. For a visitor a focused look at it is the way to understand the scale of the site before the tekija and the fortress are added.
