ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Osor was once the capital of both islands — a Roman municipium and medieval bishopric whose strait made it a shipbuilding and trade town. Today it is a museum-village of two churches, a small archaeological collection of its Roman stones, and a little swing bridge you can watch open as sailboats thread between the islands.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
Osor (Apsorus) was founded by the Romans and became the seat of the medieval county covering both Cres and Lošinj. When Venetian trade moved the island administration to Cres town in the 15th century, Osor declined into a village — preserving its Romanesque cathedral of the Assumption and its buried Roman walls in peace.
