ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE

Pelješac’s campsites serve the peninsula’s three lives: the wind, the wine and the quiet. At Viganj and Kučište, camps sit behind the windsurf beaches — the surf camps with board rental at the gate, the liveliest camping on the peninsula. Near Ston, small camps put you by the walls, the salt pans and the oyster bay. And the north shore near Trpanj and Drace holds the quiet sites — pebble coves, fishing villages and the emptiest swimming. Wild camping is strictly illegal across Croatia; the registered camps are the legal bases, and Pelješac’s low density makes them relaxed ones.

WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE

What you’ll experience

The choice sets the trip: a surf camp at Viganj gives boards, clubs and the young channel scene; a Ston-area camp gives the walls and the oyster bay within a walk; a north-shore site gives calm water and space. All the registered camps provide the essentials — pitches, electricity, toilets and showers — and the season runs roughly May to September, busiest at the wind camps in July and August.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Good to know before you go

Verify current campsite names, opening seasons, prices and availability locally — none are given here, and small camps change arrangements year to year. Book the wind camps ahead for July and August. Campervans are accommodated at the larger sites; fill water and gas before the smaller ones. Wild camping is illegal and fined.

WHY IT MATTERS

Why it matters

Pelješac’s camps put the peninsula’s three worlds — wind, wine and quiet — at tent or campervan-door step, at prices the hotels of the coast long abandoned.
