ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
Pelješac is made for a motorcycle day: one great road runs the length of the peninsula, from the new Pelješac Bridge at its gate to the port of Orebić at its tip, with the wine country, the wall-topped hill of Ston, the empty north shore and the channel coast all reachable as variants. The road rolls and curves through vineyards and maquis, traffic thins after Ston, and the reward at the western end is the channel crossing view to Korčula — plus the ferry if you want to make it a two-island day.
WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE
What you’ll experience
You cross the Pelješac Bridge — the 2.4-kilometre span that freed the peninsula from the Neum corridor in 2022 — and run the main road past Ston’s walls and up the peninsula’s spine. Variants split off: the north shore to Trpanj, the wine road over the ridge through Potomje and the Dingač tunnel, the channel coast through Viganj’s wind-surf beaches. The day ends at Orebić with the channel view and the Korčula ferry — or the ride back down the peninsula at dusk.
THE EXPERIENCE IN DETAIL
What it’s really like
A motorcycle ride the length of the Pelješac peninsula — the Pelješac Bridge, Ston’s walls, the wine road and the Dingač tunnel to the channel coast and Orebić.
HIGHLIGHTS
Moments worth savouring
The Pelješac Bridge — the 2.4-km crossing at the peninsula’s gate.
Ston’s walls and salt pans from the road.
The wine road over the ridge and the Dingač tunnel.
The channel coast at Viganj and the Orebić ferry view of Korčula.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Good to know before you go
Well-surfaced asphalt throughout; the main road is quiet after Ston but the summer channel traffic near Orebić is real. Fuel is available at Ston and Orebić — fill before the ridge variants. The Dingač tunnel is narrow and dark: lights on. Helmets are mandatory and the road is policed; watch the vipers sunning on the warm edge in the mornings.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why it matters
The peninsula road is one of Dalmatia’s great rides — the length, the wine country and the channel in a single line. For a rider it is the perfect half-day that can end, via the ferry, on a second island.
