ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Lopar’s Rajska Plaža curves for nearly a kilometre between low pines and clear shallow water — sand rather than the Adriatic’s usual slab, so children wade far out and the water warms early. Around the cape, a scatter of wilder coves (Ciganka, Sahara) keeps the same sand-and-pine character without the crowds, and the campsite behind the beach fills with families from across Europe.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
The sandy triangle of Lopar formed where the island’s northern limestone sinks into shallow water; fishermen of the Lopar hamlets worked these coves for centuries. The beach’s name — Paradise — was fixed by interwar tourism, when Rab’s royal connection and new road brought the first Croatian sunbathers; the family campsites that followed made Lopar the sandy-beach capital of the northern Adriatic.

GOOD TO KNOW
Facts & Curiosities
Rajska Plaža is one of only a handful of true sandy beaches on the whole Croatian coast.
The shallows extend far out — waist-deep water for the first fifty metres, ideal for small children.
Wilder sand coves Ciganka and Sahara lie within a short walk or paddle of the main beach.
Lopar’s campsites behind the dunes are among Croatia’s oldest family camping resorts.
