ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION

Banja Vrućica is the health and tourist resort that gives Teslić its best-known face. It stands in wooded hills beside the Usora valley, a short way from the town, on the thermal-mineral springs whose waters have been valued locally for generations and were studied abroad as early as the 1920s. The complex today holds a group of hotels, parkland with mature trees planted a century ago, and some seven kilometres of arranged walking paths through the surrounding forest. For a visitor it is the leisure and wellness layer of a Teslić stay — a place to rest in mountain air, walk the forest paths and use the resort’s bathing and spa facilities — and it is also a working health centre whose medical services are a matter for clinical arrangement, not a travel recommendation.

HISTORY & BACKGROUND

The story behind it

The modern history of Banja Vrućica begins in 1919, when a forest engineer, Simo Krstić, bought the land on the springs near Grabovac creek and began to build the first modern hotels and swimming pools. Because his trade was forestry, he planted many trees around the new buildings — including species such as taxodium that are endemic to the area — so that a hundred years later guests still walk in their shade. Research carried out in Wiesbaden in the 1920s reported that the thermal-mineral water was favourable in the treatment and rehabilitation of various disorders, and through the Yugoslav period the resort grew into one of the largest spa and tourist capacities in the country, with a complex of hotels and over a thousand beds. After the 1990s war the resort was rebuilt and remains the principal tourist capacity of its kind in Bosnia & Herzegovina.

WHAT TO SEE

What to see here

01

The thermal-mineral springs — the waters on which the resort is built, today enjoyed through bathing and spa treatments; two natural springs of drinkable therapeutic water stand on the complex.

02

The hotel complex and parkland — the group of hotels (among them Kardial, Posavina, Hercegovina and Srbija) set in planted parkland a century old.

03

The arranged forest paths — some seven kilometres of marked walks through the surrounding forest, including the “Track of life”, “Cardio track”, “Track of love” and “Track of challenges”.

04

Čubrin gaj — the arranged forest behind hotel Srbija, named for the cardiologist Dr Branko Čubrilović, an oasis of clean air and a favourite walk of guests.

WHY IT MATTERS

Why it matters

Banja Vrućica is the reason most visitors come to Teslić, and the resort’s century of planted parkland, forest paths and thermal-mineral water gives a stay here its calm, restorative character. For a visitor it is the leisure and wellness heart of a Teslić trip, distinct from the town and the mountain above.
