ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Babanovac is the main visitor and ski base of Vlašić, a family-friendly ski area on the northern side of the mountain, a short drive above the Lašva valley and the town of Travnik. Its lifts, groomed slopes and mountain accommodation make it the principal winter sports area on the mountain and the natural base for a visit in either season. The coordinate given here marks the Babanovac visitor area rather than every lift or piste. Current lift, piste and snow availability are seasonal and operator-dependent, and should be checked with the operator before a dedicated winter trip; in summer the same area is a base for walks out onto the high pastures.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
Vlašić’s life as a sport mountain developed in the Yugoslav period, when the slopes at Babanovac were equipped for skiing, and the area has grown since into one of the principal family ski resorts of Bosnia & Herzegovina. The resort sits on the northern side of the massif, close to the Lašva valley and Travnik, while the high pastures above it keep the older transhumant character of the mountain alive.
WHAT TO SEE
What to see here
The lifts and groomed slopes — the working infrastructure of the Babanovac ski area, open according to snow and resort conditions.
The mountain accommodation — the lodgings concentrated at the base, the natural stay for a ski day or a pasture walk.
The family-friendly character — the gentler slopes that make the area suited to beginners and families.
The base for the pastures — the summer starting point for walks out onto the Vlašić highland.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why it matters
Babanovac is the gateway to Vlašić in both seasons — the ski base in winter and the pasture-base in summer. For a visitor it is the most accessible face of the mountain and the place from which both the slopes and the highland are reached.
