Things to do
Watch the local divers leap 24 metres from Stari Most
Each summer, trained members of Mostar’s diving club climb to the apex of Stari Most and leap into the cold Neretva twenty-four metres below — a tradition documented for generations and the city’s most distinctive living custom.
Mostar
Drink Bosnian coffee the slow way in the old bazaar
Bosnian coffee is brewed slowly in a copper džezva and served in a small fildžan with sugar and rahat lokum — less a drink than a social ritual you sit down for, shared across Bosnia & Herzegovina and easy to find in the cafés of Mostar’s old bazaar.
Mostar
Catch sunset over the bridge from Lučki most
A short walk downstream from Stari Most, the low Lučki most footbridge opens a quieter, head-on view of the Old Bridge and the Neretva — a calm place to watch the light change over the river as the day ends.
Mostar
Fortica Panorama and Skywalk Visit
A flexible visit to the Fortica viewpoint and glass skywalk above Mostar, giving a broad panorama over the city, the Neretva valley and the surrounding mountains. The viewpoint visit is separate from the zipline, climbing, via ferrata and other paid adventure activities that may operate on the hillside, whose availability, access and suitability must be confirmed locally.
Mostar
Mostar Austro-Hungarian Architecture Walk
An independent urban walk through the Austro-Hungarian layer of Mostar beyond the Ottoman old town, anchored at Spanish Square and the Mostar Gymnasium. A flexible route through public streets and squares — the civic streets, the Rondo area and the Habsburg urban layer — before transitioning toward the historic centre.
Mostar
Eat ćevapi where locals queue for them
Ćevapi — small skinless sausages of grilled minced meat, served in a warm lepinja flatbread with raw onion and kajmak — are Sarajevo’s everyday dish and the thing the city’s old bazaar does best. The ritual is to find the tiny ćevabdžinica where the queue is longest, order by the piece, and eat standing or perched on a stool.
Sarajevo
Walk the Miljacka embankments at dusk
The Miljacka river runs through the heart of Sarajevo, and its embankments are the city’s natural evening walk — bridges, minarets and Habsburg façades reflected in the water as the light drops.
Sarajevo
Hear the stories of the siege from a local guide
The siege of Sarajevo (1992–95) is recent living memory, and the most meaningful way to understand it is to walk the city with a local who lived through it — the front lines, the sniper alleys, the memorials and the Tunnel of Hope.
Sarajevo
Walk from Baščaršija to the Austro-Hungarian centre
A ten-minute walk that crosses empires — from the Ottoman bazaar to the church towers, façades and shopfronts of the Habsburg city.
Sarajevo
Bosnian coffee, the slow way
Bosnian coffee is a ritual, not a takeaway — a copper pot, a tiny cup and an unhurried half hour in a bazaar café.
Sarajevo
Explore Jajce’s historic center, fortress and waterfall
A walking loop through the heart of Jajce — the fortress on the hill, the old town spilling down to the gorge, and the Pliva waterfall at the bottom — is the one experience every visitor should do.
Jajce
Visit the Pliva lakes and traditional watermills
A half-day upstream of Jajce to the turquoise Pliva lakes and the old wooden watermills at Mlinčići — the gentle, photogenic counterpoint to the town’s fortress and waterfall.
Jajce
Walk Trebinje’s old town and the Trebišnjica river
A relaxed walk through the compact centre of Trebinje — the fortress walls of Kastel, the plane-tree-shaded main square, the river promenade and the moved Arslanagić Bridge — is the simplest way to take in the town and the one thing every visitor should do.
Trebinje
Discover Trebinje museum and literary heritage
A focused experience of Trebinje’s museum and literary heritage — the Museum of Herzegovina founded from Jovan Dučić’s idea and collection, and the poet’s grave and legacy at the hilltop Hercegovačka Gračanica — read together as the town’s intellectual and literary thread.
Trebinje
Photograph Trebinje from river to hillside
A photography experience that follows Trebinje from the Trebišnjica and Kastel to the moved Arslanagić Bridge, the red-roofed town and the Crkvina viewpoint above — a sequence of river, stone, rooftops and hillside rather than a fixed route.
Trebinje
Duži Monastery and Trebinje Countryside Visit
A respectful visit to Duži Monastery, an active Serbian Orthodox community in the Trebinjska Šuma roughly twelve kilometres south of Trebinje, read together with the quiet rural landscape around it — a short countryside trip out of the town rather than a guaranteed-access attraction.
Trebinje

Sights worth the detour
Stari Most
The stone arch thrown across the Neretva by order of Suleiman the Magnificent and completed in the 1560s — a single 29-metre span that gave the city its name and its symbol. Destroyed in November 1993, the bridge was rebuilt with stone hauled from the riverbed and reopened in 2004; the old bridge area is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Each summer trained local divers leap from its apex into the emerald water twenty-four metres below.
Mostar
Kujundžiluk
The coppersmiths’ quarter that tumbles down the east bank to the bridge — a lane of Ottoman workshops where kujundži still hammer coffee sets and trays by hand. The cobblestones, overhanging eaves and tiny shops are largely unchanged since the 16th century, and the street is the living heart of the old town.
Mostar
Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque
A single-domed mosque built in 1617–18 by Koski Mehmed Pasha, set a few steps from the bridge with its courtyard almost overhanging the Neretva. Visitors can climb the narrow minaret stair for the most photographed view of Stari Most and the river gorge — the classic Mostar panorama.
Mostar
Kriva Ćuprija
A smaller, older Ottoman stone bridge spanning the Radobolja creek a few minutes’ walk north of Stari Most. Built before its famous neighbour, it is often read as its prototype — a single humpbacked arch that survived the war intact and now sits quietly among the old houses.
Mostar
Muslibegović House
A well-preserved late-Ottoman residential complex on the west side of the old town, one of the finest surviving examples of Mostar’s traditional stone-and-wood domestic architecture. Now a house-museum and heritage hotel, it shows how a wealthy Muslim family lived — carved ceilings, separate selamluk and haremluk quarters, and a shaded inner courtyard.
Mostar
Museum of the Old Bridge
Housed in the 15th-century Tara (Herceguša) tower at the bridge’s west end, the museum traces the bridge’s Ottoman construction, its 1993 destruction and the 2004 reconstruction. Displays include original stone fragments recovered from the river, archival plans and the story of the divers who keep the jumping tradition alive.
Mostar
Karađoz-beg Mosque
The largest Ottoman mosque in Herzegovina, built in the 1550s by Karađoz-beg, the great benefactor of 16th-century Mostar — a domed mosque with a slender minaret, once the centre of a complex that included a madrasa, a hamam and a clock tower.
Mostar
Fortica Viewpoint and Adventure Park
A hilltop viewpoint and outdoor-adventure area on the slopes of Fortica, east of Mostar, around the 500-metre elevation level. From its terraces and glass skywalk it offers a broad panorama over Mostar, the Neretva valley and the surrounding Herzegovinian landscape, with separate zipline and climbing or adventure facilities whose access, operation and suitability must be confirmed locally.
Mostar
Spanish Square and Mostar Gymnasium
Spanish Square and the Mostar Gymnasium form the Austro-Hungarian and modern civic layer of the city beyond the Ottoman old town. The Gymnasium is known for its Moorish Revival facade and remains an active educational building, also associated with United World College Mostar — best appreciated from the public square rather than from inside.
Mostar
Baščaršija & Sebilj
The Ottoman old bazaar and its wooden fountain — the soul of the city.

Site of the 1914 assassination that ignited the First World War.
