ROUTE
The Italian leg of the FVG1 — from the Alps at Tarvisio down the valleys, past the vineyards and Aquileia’s Roman plain, to the lagoon beaches of Grado.
ABOUT THIS ROUTE
The Alpe Adria Cycle Route (FVG1) is Friuli’s spine ride: roughly 130 kilometres from the Austrian border at Tarvisio, down the Canal del Ferro past Valbruna, along the Tagliamento foothills, through the vineyards of Collio and the Roman plain of Aquileia, to end with a swim in the lagoon at Grado. It is nearly all gentle downhill on dedicated cycle paths — the classic five-day ride, or three days for strong legs. Tarvisio’s station rents bikes; every stage ends in a town with a rail line back.
