ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
Above the ruins the Venetian castle crowns the acropolis — a compact fortress begun in the 14th century to watch the channel and the strait, rebuilt after Ottoman attacks and now housing the site museum. The terrace around it is the park’s best viewpoint: the whole excavated city below, the lagoon and Vivari channel around it, the mountains of Epirus across the water and Corfu on the horizon. Climb it last — the view explains the city.

No hotels inside the park — base yourself in Ksamil (20 minutes by bus) for beaches and tavernas around the visits.
Sarandë works equally well — the frequent Butrint bus makes the park an easy half-day from the promenade.
