ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE

Off the west end of Korčula, the islets of Proizd and Ošljak rise from open water — uninhabited, ringed with white-rock platforms and pine, and washed by water of a transparency that has made Proizd famous far beyond the island. Excursion boats from Vela Luka run the circuit in season: a slow cruise through the islet group, a long swim-and-lunch stop off Proizd’s polished stone shelves, and a return along the coast. It is the beach day for people who have seen the beaches — no sand, no buildings, just rock, pine and very clear sea.

WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE

What you’ll experience

You board in Vela Luka’s harbour for a slow run through the islet chain, with commentary if you take the guided variant. At Proizd, the boat anchors off the rock platforms — you swim or wade ashore — and the stop runs long enough for lunch at the small seasonal konoba and several swims. The water over the white bottom glows turquoise even at depth. The return hugs the Korčula shore toward the bay. Trips run three to six hours depending on the operator; verify current schedules locally.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Good to know before you go

Boats run from Vela Luka harbour in season — verify current operators, times and prices locally, as schedules change yearly. Bring water shoes: the rock platforms are smooth but hot and the entries are rocky. Take sun protection — shade is scarce — and some cash for the konoba. Seasick-prone travellers should take the morning departure when the water is calmest.

WHY IT MATTERS

Why it matters

Proizd is the reason the west end has a reputation — the clearest water and the strangest shoreline on the island, unreachable except by boat. For a visitor it is the definitive swim day of a Korčula stay.
