A boat tour of Kopački Rit is the natural day trip from Osijek — a slow ride through the channels and lakes of the wetland, past reedbeds, willow forest and meadows full of birds and deer. The boats are small and quiet, and the reserve is best seen from the water, where the birds and the wild horses are closest.

WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE

What you’ll experience

You drive or take a tour to the reserve entrance at Bilje, board a small electric or rowed boat, and ride through the channels into the wetland. The tour passes reedbeds full of herons and egrets, stops for deer and wild horses in the meadows, and may reach the larger lakes where white-tailed eagles nest. The whole trip is a few hours, with a guide pointing out the wildlife.
