ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
The classic photograph of Počitelj is taken from across the Neretva, on the right bank opposite the village, where the stone houses climbing the hillside compose into the amphitheatre that is the village’s defining image. From this angle the mosque, the sahat-kula and the fortress on the summit line up the hillside in a single frame, and the river plain gives the foreground. The view is the reason Počitelj is one of the most photographed villages in Herzegovina, and it is best in the morning light, when the stone catches the sun and the hillside reads clearly. The viewpoint is reached from the road on the opposite bank, a short walk from the village itself.

HIGHLIGHTS
Moments worth savouring
The amphitheatre — the stone houses climbing the hillside in tiers, the defining composition of Počitelj.
The mosque and the clock tower — the dome, the minaret and the sahat-kula lining the climb.
The fortress on the summit — the Kula crowning the hillside above the village.
The Neretva foreground — the river plain that gives the view its depth.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Good to know before you go
A short walk to the right bank of the Neretva opposite the village for the classic composition. The light is best in the morning, when the stone is lit and the hillside reads clearly; in the late afternoon the village falls into shade earlier than the plain. Bring a lens with some reach if you want the fortress detail from across the river.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why it matters
The cross-river view is the image that made Počitelj famous and the one most visitors take home. For a visitor it is the complement to the panorama from the fortress — the village seen from outside rather than from above.
