ROUTE
The great Aosta valley driving road — from Courmayeur down the Dora and up the Valtournenche, with the Matterhorn closing the view.
ABOUT THIS ROUTE
The drive every motorcyclist in the Alps keeps on the list: the SR26 down the Aosta valley’s mid-line, then the climb up the Valtournenche to Breuil-Cervinia — two of the Alps’ four-thousanders bookending one afternoon. The road is wide and fast between the castles, narrow and Switchbacked up the Valtournenche; the stops that make it are the Bard fort, the Fénis castle and the Lago Blu mirror of the Matterhorn at the top. Winter it closes above Valtournenche; the season is May–October.
