ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Mljet National Park, established in 1960, protects the entire north-western third of the island — an unusually complete Mediterranean forest ecosystem around the two salt lakes, Veliko and Malo Jezero. Unlike most Dalmatian parks, the experience here is soft and intimate: a network of flat forest paths and lanes circles the lakes, bikes and small boats move at their own pace, and the loudest thing you will hear is the cicadas. The park is the reason most visitors come to Mljet, and a full day inside it — cycling the lakeshore, swimming off the wooden platforms and crossing to the monastery islet — is the island’s defining experience.
