ROUTE
Ride the turquoise lake loop and link it to the Drau cycle path — the easy half-day that feeds the Alpe Adria route toward Italy.
ABOUT THIS ROUTE
The Faaker See loop (about 12 km around the lake) is Carinthia’s prettiest short ride — the water really is turquoise, the Gerlitzen fills the view, and the traffic-free sections run along the southern shore. Extend it westward on the Drau cycle path toward Villach and the Italian border: this is the link that joins the lake to the Alpe Adria route, and stronger riders can ride the whole Faaker See–Villach–Tarvisio corridor in a day. E-bikes hire at Drobollach; the egg-shaped Domenig Steinhaus makes an odd detour on the Ossiach side.

Carinthia

Carinthia’s third-largest lake — a warm, quiet mirror beneath the Gerlitzen, anchored by a thousand-year-old abbey that still fills with music every summer.
