ROUTE
The long-distance trail’s lake stages — from Millstatt’s abbey over the Millstätter Alpe to the Nockberge high pastures, the deep water below the whole way.
ABOUT THIS ROUTE
The Alpe Adria Trail’s Carinthian heart runs straight over the Millstätter See: the stage from Millstatt climbs through beech forest to the Millstätter Alpe high pasture, where the Alexanderhütte serves the trail’s classic view over the whole lake, and the descent drops to Döbriach by the Granattor path. Walk it as the classic day stage (about 5–6 hours), or link the lake stages — Millstatt, Seeboden, the Mirnock — into a three-day traverse. The trail then runs on toward Bad Kleinkirchheim and, eventually, the Adriatic.
