Seasonal conditions
Operator-dependent; spring snowmelt is faster, colder and more demanding, while summer water is generally slower.
ROUTE
A guided descent through the final and most concentrated white-water section of the Tara Canyon, from Brštanovica towards Šćepan Polje.
ABOUT THIS ROUTE
The Brštanovica–Šćepan Polje section is the classic short Tara Canyon rafting run accessed from the Foča region. It passes through a sequence of major rapids before reaching the Tara–Piva confluence area at Šćepan Polje, where the Drina begins.
Although the river section is commonly described as approximately 18 kilometres, its character and travel time change sharply with water level. Spring snowmelt produces faster, colder and more demanding conditions, while summer water is generally slower. The activity must be organised through a qualified or licensed operator who provides transport, equipment, safety briefing and an experienced guide or skipper. Foča is shown in the Atlas only as the regional gateway, not as the launch point. Typical time on the river is approximately 2–3 hours, with a typical complete organised activity of approximately 5 hours. The source reports a start elevation of approximately 498 m and a finish elevation of approximately 433 m; these are not converted into hiking-style elevation gain.
PLAN RESPONSIBLY
Operator-dependent; spring snowmelt is faster, colder and more demanding, while summer water is generally slower.
This is an organised rafting activity and must not be attempted independently. Follow the skipper’s briefing and instructions. Foča remains only the regional Atlas gateway and is not the rafting launch point.
