ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
The Blue Eye of Theth is the mountain’s magic trick: the Shala river vanishes into the karst at Nderlysa and re-emerges from under a limestone wall as a pool of glass-blue water in a narrow gorge. The walk from the village runs 2 hours down the valley through Nderlysa’s stone hamlets, and the reward is a swim in water that stays around 10 °C even in August — bracing, transparent, and photographed from the rock ledge above.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
The spring has drawn local swimmers for generations; the walking trail from Theth was the valley’s summer route to the high pastures of the Kapetina mountain above. The name shares the folk symbol of the “blue eye” protective amulet — the same name as the better-known Blue Eye near Sarandë — and the site became a national-park landmark as hiking grew after the 2017 road.
