ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
On Mljet’s south-western outer coast, where limestone cliffs take the full force of the open Adriatic, a collapsed cavern has left a near-circular grotto open to the sky and connected to the sea by a low, wave-carved arch. Local tradition ties it to the Odyssey — the cave where the storm-driven Odysseus swam ashore and spent seven years with the nymph Calypso — and whatever the truth of the legend, the reality is dramatic: a deep blue pool of open sea, vertical rock walls, and a shaft of daylight that turns the water luminous around noon.
