ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Hoxha’s Albania dug itself into concrete, and the Bunk’Art museums open that world: **Bunk’Art 2**, a nuclear shelter beneath the Ministry of Interior in the centre, tells the secret police’s story through the decontamination rooms and interrogation files of a regime that watched everyone; **Bunk’Art 1**, a five-level tunnel complex dug into the hill toward Dajti, holds the halls built for the whole government — assembly chamber, offices, dormitories — never used, now an atmospheric museum of the isolated socialist state. Between them they are the essential Tirana history lesson.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
The bunkers were built in the 1970s–80s at the height of Hoxha’s siege mentality — after the 1968 Warsaw-pact invasion of Czechoslovakia and the 1978 split with China, Albania armed and dug itself against everyone. The centre bunker sheltered the Ministry of Interior; the Dajti complex, linked by tunnels, was meant to house the entire state apparatus. Sealed after 1990, both were opened as museums in 2016–2017 by the memory institute — the films, recordings and interrogation documents of the Sigurimi archive are their core collections.

Bunk’Art 1 is a five-level complex with halls built for the entire government assembly.
Albania built an estimated 170,000+ bunkers — the museums put the paranoia in context.
Both museums opened 2016–2017; the archive films and interrogation records are original.
