ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE

Dubrovnik is a natural base for a motorcycle half-day: the old Adriatic coastal road (the D8) leaves the city over the ridge toward Cavtat with sea views the whole way, drops into the Konavle valley for a completely different landscape of flat fields and stone villages, and loops back through Gruda and the quiet back lanes toward the coast. The combination — cliffs, a Riviera town, an agricultural plain and empty twisties — packs the variety of a full day’s riding into an easy morning or afternoon loop of well under a hundred kilometres, with fuel, coffee and lunch stops in Cavtat or the valley.

WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE

What you’ll experience

Leaving Dubrovnik on the D8, the road climbs over the Srd ridge line and drops toward Cavtat with the open Adriatic on your left — a sequence of curves and viewpoints that is the scenic highlight of the loop. From Cavtat the route crosses into the Konavle valley on small country roads, rides the flat lanes of the Konavosko polje through Gruda and the villages, and returns toward the coast on the back road, rejoining the D8 for the final run home. Take the loop clockwise for the best sea views on the climbs, and add the Prevlaka peninsula extension if you want extra kilometres at the far south.

The D8 coastal road over the ridge toward Cavtat — curves with open sea views.

02

Cavtat’s harbour for a coffee stop.

The flat, empty lanes of the Konavosko polje — riding country with zero traffic stress.

The optional Prevlaka extension to the southern tip of the Croatian coast.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Good to know before you go

A loop of roughly 50–80 kilometres depending on extensions, on good paved roads with light traffic outside the summer peak. A standard car licence covers a large motorcycle in Croatia; wear full gear — the D8 is police-monitored and the summer traffic around Dubrovnik is real. Fuel is available in Dubrovnik, Cavtat and Gruda. In July and August ride early: the coast road fills with campers and day traffic, and the valley holds the afternoon heat.
